Where is Lapu-Lapu
Lapu-Lapu City is one of the cities that make up Metro Cebu, though it is considered administratively independent from the province of Cebu. Formerly known as Opon, the City of Lapu-Lapu has been renamed as such to honor the Philippine hero, Lapu-lapu, who drove away and killed the Portuguese navigator and explorer, Ferdinand Magellan.
Lapu-Lapu City is a first-class highly urbanized city housing over 490,000 people in 30 barangays. It is a well-known spot for coconut-growing and fishing, and it houses the country’s second busiest international airport, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
Lapu-Lapu City occupies the northwestern Mactan Island, on a narrow channel of Bohol opposite Cebu City. It is bounded on the north by the main island of Cebu. To its west, Lapu-Lapu City is bordered by Cebu City and the Mactan Channel. The Camotes Sea borders the eastern side of the city while the south is bounded by the town of Cordova. While it mainly occupies Mactan Island, a few kilometers off the main island of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu City’s territory extends to some of the barangays on the Olango Island Group. The city itself is also linked to Mandaue in mainland Cebu by the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge and Marcelo Fernan Bridges.
