LTO Region 12 – Central Mindanao (SOCCSKSARGEN) Region

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 12, also known as the LTO Central Mindanao Region or LTO SOCCSKSARGEN, is one of the regional divisions of the LTO in the Philippines. Like the Central Office, this regional office also manages and oversees the LTO agencies in the cities and municipalities within the territorial jurisdiction of Region 12. The LTO branch agencies within Region 12, on the other hand, carry out the projects and enforce the LTO rules and regulations in the cities and municipalities within its geographical area of responsibility (GAOR). The LTO Central Mindanao (SOCCSKSARGEN) regional office, along with its LTO agencies, ensures that the Secretariat and its services are accessible, making it easier for both the public and the agency to work together towards a safer, more efficient, more convenient, and more affordable land transport service in Central Mindanao (SOCCSKSARGEN).

SOCCSKSARGEN stands for the acronym of the region’s four provinces and one of its cities: South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City. This region is the catch basin of Mindanao and is endowed with extensive coastlines, valleys and mountain ranges. It is also well-known for its river systems. It is one of the few typhoon-free regions in the country, but it does attract thousands of small scale miners as well as commercial explorers within its territory, making it an ideal spot for local government offices like the LTO.

What is LTO Region 12?

Formerly known as the Central Mindanao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, officially designated as Region 12, is an administrative region in the south-central part of the island of Mindanao. It houses the oldest civilization in the region in Maitum, Sarangani, the home of the Maitum Anthropomorphic Pottery, a National Cultural Treasure. The economy in this region is driven by agriculture, fishery and forestry which accounts for 42% of the regional domestic product. It has four (4) different provinces and one highly urbanized city (HUC) (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos). The regional center is in Koronadal, South Cotabato, but the center of commerce and industry is General Santos City (GenSan), which is the most populous city in the region. These provinces and cities house LTO agencies within its jurisdiction and it is these LTO agencies that make up what is collectively known as LTO Region 12 (LTO Central Mindanao Region). With the LTO Region 12 agencies, the LTO makes it easier for the people in these parts to access and avail of its core programs and services without leaving the region.
