Where is Butuan City
Butuan, which is officially known as the City of Butuan is a first class highly urbanized city (HUC) in the region of CARAGA. It is the former capital of the Rajahnate of Butuan. Now, it serves as the de facto capital of the province of Agusan del Norte and the home to approximately 370,000 people.
In olden times, the city used to be the best in gold and boat manufacturing in the entire Philippine archipelago, having traded with traders from as far as Champa, Ming, Srivijaya, Majapahit, and the Bengali coasts. Now, Butuan serves as the commercial, industrial, and administrative center of CARAGA region. It is also a strategic trading hub in Northern Mindanao connected by major roads to other main cities in the island, including Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Malaybalay, Surigao, and soon, Tandag. It is also the home to one of the busiest airports in the country, the Bancasi Airport, which serves around 525,000 passengers along with Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines. Meanwhile, Butuan has its shipping and cargo needs taken cared of at the nearby Nasipit International Port and in-city Masao Port.
In terms of geography, Butuan City is located at the northeastern part of the Agusan Valley in Mindanao, 29 kilometres (18 mi) away from the city of Cabadbaran, the provincial capital of Agusan del Norte, sprawling across the Agusan River. It is bounded to the north, west, and south by Agusan del Norte, to the east by Agusan del Sur, and to the northwest by Butuan Bay.
