LTO Region 9 – Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) Region

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 9, also known as the LTO Zamboanga Peninsula Region, is one of the regional divisions of the LTO. Like the LTO Central Office, this office also manages and oversees the LTO agencies in the cities and municipalities within the territorial jurisdiction of Region 9. The LTO branches, on the other hand, carry out the projects and enforce the LTO rules and regulations in the cities and municipalities within its geographical area of responsibility (GAOR). The LTO Zamboanga Peninsula regional office, along with the LTO agencies under it, ensures that the agency and its services are accessible, making it easier for both the public and the agency to work together towards a safer, more efficient, more convenient, and more affordable land transport service in the region.

The Zamboanga Peninsula (formerly known as Western Mindanao) is well-known for housing the first-ever export-processing zone in Mindanao. Though its economy is largely reliant on farming and fishing (which happens to be the third highest fish production in the country), the region also houses rice and corn mills, oil processing, coffee berry processing and processing of latex from rubber. It has rich deposits of gold, chromite, manganese, asbestos and silica and well-established home industries, include rattan and furniture craft, basket making, weaving, and brass work.

What is LTO Region 9?

The Zamboanga Peninsula Region, officially designated as Region 9, is an administrative region in the western part of the island of Mindanao. It lies between the Moro Gulf (part of the Celebes Sea) and the Sulu Sea and is divided into section of Mindanao. It is home to three (3) provinces, namely, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay, as well as three cities (Dapitan, Dipolog, Pagadian), the highly urbanized Zamboanga City, and the component city of Isabela. These provinces and cities house various LTO agencies within its jurisdiction and it is these LTO agencies that makes up what is collectively known as LTO Region 9 (LTO Zamboanga Peninsula Region).

The regional center of Zamboanga Peninsula is Pagadian City—the “Little Hongkong of the Philippines” nestled at the foot of a hill and the second largest city in the Zamboanga Peninsula. As a regional center, it attracts waves of different kinds of people, making it easier for LTO to bring its core programs and services closer to the over 3.8 million people in the region.

Mission and Vision of LTO Region 9

Like the other LTO agencies and regional offices, the LTO Region 9 also operates under the same mission and vision as that of the LTO Central Office.

It is the responsibility of those involved in the public service to be more vigilant in their part in the overall development scheme of the national leadership. Hence, promotion of safety and comfort in land travel is a continuing commitment of the LTO.
